CH Deurne: Ben Spreuwenberg & Antonio win Veteran Jumping Championship
One of the absolute crowd pleasers during the Dutch Jumping Championships is the ‘Vader Abraham’ class for Veterans: a special championship for riders who’s all surpassed the blessed age of 50. This year, Ben Spreuwenberg was crowned Veteran Champion after winning the 1.10 meter class with jump-off. With his Oklund-gelding Antonio – who with his 18 years of age is not a youngster anymore either – he managed to note down a faultless and very quick jump-off round.
The silver medal went to Klaas Mostert, who showed an incredible effort with not just one, but both his horses. With the 12-year-old Darco-stallion General Darco he finished in 40,88 seconds, only just ahead of Spreuwenberg’s 40,63. Mostert was a tiny bit slower with his Ustinov-gelding Edzard.
Not only the ‘older’ gentleman showed that age is just a number: the ladies did as well! Jenny van Rijsewijk-Voskens and Aligarkh finished fourth (but was allowed to step on the podium in third, because of Mostert’s double result) and Petra Bouwmand and Lucky Touch (v. Kannan) completed the top five.
