Dirk’s Favourite: ‘Another definition of ‘going in first”

During these 2020 Olympics, our Belgian colleague Dirk Caremans keeps us up to date on all that’s happening in and around the Tokyo Equestrian Village, completing our news articles with his fantastic photographs. In addition, Dirk provides us with a daily update sharing his favourite photo of the day.

“Well, it could really only be this one”, Dirk told us by sending his photo of the day. First rider to start in Sunday’s cross country, Arinadtha Chavatanont (THA), made a very unfortunate tumble in the water complex at fence 5. Her Boleybown Prince took a wrong gamble trying to land his front feet on a tiny strip of dry land on the edge of the in-jump, sending himself and his rider head first into the pond. Probably not quite what they had imagined when being told they would be the first combination to be going in… Thankfully both rider and horse walked away fine, albeit a little wet.
