A beautiful group of young dressage horses appeared in the ring today during the Pavo Cup-selection in Tolbert. The HJC Manege in Tolbert was a beautiful backdrop for the forty combinations that took part. A successful edition, because six horses were awarded 80 points or more.

Marian Dorresteijn and Joyce van Rooijen-Heuitink judged the group of four-year-olds. Stefan Passchier and Monty turned out to be ‘last best’, as the final starter received the first prize. The Indian Rock x Bretton Woods-offspring moved with great expression and self-carriage. “Monty is a handsome, long-legged and elegant horse,” says Van Rooijen-Heuitink. “He continues to walk well with the withers upwards in both trot and canter and shows a lot of balance. He also takes a lot of space in the walk, but he had some short, small disturbances. We have also included that tension in the grading for harmony.” The score of 83 points can still go up, which says a lot about the talent that the stallion has. “For the perfect picture, the horse should open a little bit more in its connection, but overall he was presented very neatly by Stefan.”

Debbehoeve’s Linvasion (Sir Donnerhall x Krack C) scored the best among the five-year-olds. Marije van Thuijl-Tromp sent the chestnut to a total of 84 points. Bart Bax and Veronique Roerink praised the gelding for its constant image and its uphill way of moving. “An appealing presentation in which the fine connection stood out,” Bax explains. “He is a horse with three very correct gaits and stayed uphill the entire ride. For an even higher mark, he could have a little more bend in the hind leg, but on the other hand he showed a lot of power in the transitions, especially in the canter.”

The class for six-year-old dressage horses was won by Kadiene, presented by Svenja Grimm. The Zhivago-daughter out of a Belissimo-dam clearly enjoyed her work, which was also clearly reflected in its assessment. With 85 points, the combination achieved the highest score of the day. “A horse that stood out for its light-footedness and use of the body. Kadiene has a lot of tritt in the legs and went with a lot of power. In the canter she is sometimes a bit quick and should have a little more space every now and then, but Kadiene could easily stay on the hind leg in the transitions. The image was very sympathetic.”

Looking back on the day, the jury is very satisfied. “Despite the fact that the young horses only have very few kilometers in their legs, almost all of them were actually very obedient and workable,” said Joyce van Rooijen-Heuitink. “The neck length still remains a point of attention here and there, so we would like to give that to the participants as a point of advice.”
